Come and Join Us, We’re The True Disruptors!

That’s what I should have said when I presented BF Media Lounge yesterday at Lidera by Barcelona Activa.

But I didn’t. I presented it simply as it is. And while I received some enthusiastic cheers, I also heard some pretty harsh criticism:

“Why an eggplant as a mascot? It looks childish. You’re supposed to be an authoritative figure with your book. It doesn’t make sense.”

Humour and joy are often difficult concepts to accept within a professional environment, and that’s ok. After all, BF Media Lounge’s aim is to change the narrative.

Research I cite in my book Reboot Your Story shows that positivity, humour, and joy increase productivity, boost sales, improve mental health, and even support recovery from illness, including cancer. Neuroscience tells us that if we collectively decided to adopt these attributes and think positively, the world could be transformed within a few years - but new concepts take time.

That’s why we’re building stories, courses, and communities that don’t just inspire, they empower. From films and books to digital programmes and events, BF Media Lounge is creating a new kind of media brand: one that heals, empowers, and grows sustainably. How’s that for disruption?

When business forums or the start-up environment talk about disruptors, what they really mean is “disruptors within an already well-established environment”. Todays’ “disruptors” use buzzwords, present “agile solutions’” - they certainly don’t talk about the power of positivity, humour, or joy and the tools to implement them.

Professionalism has become a synonym for seriousness and decorum. In that context, an eggplant called Boris doesn’t fit the traditional narrative - and that’s exactly the point.

According to Diffusion Research Theory, innovations aren’t adopted all at once. First come the Innovators - those eager to test new ideas. Then come the Early Adopters (around 12.5% of people), who help the idea spread until it takes root.

BF Media Lounge is firmly at the Innovators stage. We’re showing that by changing narratives through positivity, healing, humour, and joy, we can change the world— and we’re backed by science.
